Crawford Del Prete
|
I’m Crawford Del Prete, senior vice president, IDC, Hardware, Services and Software Research and Consulting. I’ve been with IDC for 19 years. I manage IDC's single largest research program, which has nearly $100 million in revenue and over 200 employees in the U.S. and Canada alone. I am also responsible for marketing, product management and market development. I am active in research and consulting efforts in the overall IT and consumer space and spend a considerable amount of time with IDC customers, traveling around the world to understand their strategies, and how we can better serve them. And finally, I serve as IDC's lead analyst for Hewlett-Packard.
Why I’m here There are many reasons. Seeing an individual grow through experience is very rewarding. Launching new products and creating new businesses is a big thrill. It's great to create something that never existed before. In the research and consulting part of my job, seeing a company develop a new product or offering that you helped with is really great. This recently happened with one of our large customers.
On the job We are a very busy team. We are constantly juggling the needs of our customers with the requirement to run an organized business. This means we need to be organized and scheduled but also flexible enough to react to whatever the market might throw at us on a given day. It's busy, but really invigorating. You are consistently confronted by new challenges every day.
Career growth IDC very much invests in its people and promotes from within. IDC is always looking for hard working, motivated people!
What sets us apart I have been at IDC for almost 19 years. Throughout my tenure, IDC has maintained a spirit that I believe is very rare. When I had been with the company for only a few years, I went to my boss and asked him, "Why don't we start a storage research program in Europe? I think we could grow a nice business there." About a month later, he came into my cubicle and asked me to travel to Germany for a week of sales calls in order to better understand the local market. I had never been out of the U.S.! Together we built a plan and started a new business. Ever since that day, I am always looking for feedback from all parts of my team.
