Patrick KenneyI’m Kevin Kane, Vice President Tech Investor at IDC. I manage IDC’s Tech Investor program, which is a dedicated research offering created for investment professionals (primarily hedge fund and mutual fund analysts and portfolio managers). I am responsible for Tech Investor product development, product marketing and account management. My team works very closely with the IDC research teams in creating research specifically for the Tech Investor client base, as well as in providing an investment perspective for the core IDC research deliverables.

I am also responsible for managing the relationship with our outside sales partner. My team is heavily involved in the outside sales process, including recent efforts in international expansion.

Why I’m here
I felt like the opportunity we had to build a business for investors was strong. It seemed to be a great professional opportunity that involved filling a niche within the market. There was something here to build, and take pride in building.

The aspect of my job that I enjoy the most is the challenge presented by our client base. Investment professionals are an extremely demanding group, and each firm has its own very specific research needs. Each day we are tasked with creating research to meet as large a portion of our client base as possible, while at the same time providing a very customized level of customer service for each account. Given the success that we have had in building the Tech Investor business, I believe that we have been effective in addressing the client needs, however I also believe that we are still early in the process of creating the perfect business model for this marketplace.

On the job
I proactively reach out to clients and receive incoming request from clients – our primary goal is to integrate ourselves into the client’s research process as completely as possible. I also collaborate with our sales team on sales conference calls, marketing activities, and sales road shows. I collaborate with IDC analysts to create relevant investment-style research for Tech Investor clients.

Career growth
IDC is a very entrepreneurial environment which affords employees the opportunity to engage in various parts of building and managing the business. On a personal level, I feel that IDC has offered me the flexibility and creativity to build a business that falls outside of the traditional IDC business model, all the while supporting the demands of our client base and the needs of our team members.

What sets us apart
I would highlight the employee focus as the key differentiator for me. I have previously worked for a company with 60,000 employees and feel that IDG/IDC has more of an individual focus than the larger company for which I had worked.
