Software Revenues Grew Twice as Fast in Emerging Markets as in Mature Markets in 2012, According to IDC

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The worldwide software market grew 3.6% year over year in 2012, less than half the growth rate experienced in 2010 and 2011, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Semiannual Software Tracker. Although some deceleration was expected, the economic contraction in the mature markets of Western Europe and Japan played a determinant role in the overall market performance. Meanwhile, the emerging markets of Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEMA), Latin America, and Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan, Australia, and New Zealand) enjoyed year-over-year growth of 7.2% in 2012. This was the fourth consecutive year of solid growth in these emerging markets, enabling them to collectively gain more than two points of worldwide market share over this period.

Worldwide Semiconductor Market Contracted 2.2% in 2012 to $295 Billion – IDC Expects 3-4% Revenue Growth in 2013

SAN MATEO, Calif., May 22, 2013 – Worldwide semiconductor revenues decreased by 2.2% year over year to $295 billion in 2012, according to the latest version of the International Data Corporation (IDC) Semiconductor Application Forecaster (SAF). The industry witnessed a slowdown during the second half of 2012 on weak consumer spending across PCs, mobile phones, and digital televisions (DTV), as well as in the Industrial and other market segments. The European economic crises and a slowdown in China also had an impact on global demand while the lackluster launch of Windows 8 failed to stimulate PC sales and turn the tide. Meanwhile, competitive suppliers from China continued to pressure average selling prices, dragging down overall revenue growth. IDC expects the semiconductor market to return to growth in 2013 with revenues forecast to increase by 3.5% this year.

Worldwide Business Process Management and Middleware Vendors Feel the Impact of Cloud Offerings on Growth, According to IDC

FRAMINGHAM, Mass., May 20, 2013 – The business process management (BPM) and middleware market grew 3.6% year over year to $18.8 billion in 2012 with growth underperforming compared with that of the previous two years. New research from International Data Corporation (IDC) shows that the slow growth in 2012 was only partially caused by poor macroeconomic conditions – the failure of large vendors to deliver products that met the growing appetite for public cloud significantly contributed to their growth problems.
